England Geography:
England
is located on the northwest coast of Europe. It is separated from Scandinavia
and the Netherlands by the North Sea and from France via the English Channel.
The country is made up of two main islands; the larger island is called Great
Britain, which includes Scotland, Wales and England. There is a smaller island
in Ireland, separated from the UK by the Irish Sea. Southern Ireland is an
independent country and a member of the European Union, but Northern Ireland is
part of the United Kingdom.
Area:
The
UK covers an area of 243,610 square kilometres. About 70% of England's land
is arable and many crops are grown in the land.
Mountains:
The
mountainous region of England has low mountains and hills. These areas are very
suitable for agriculture. The Pennine Mountains, the Cumbrian Mountains, and
the Lake District are some of the most famous.
Plains:
These
areas receive less rain and more sunlight than mountainous areas and have
fertile soil. Most of the population density is in the plains. The most famous
of these areas are the Cotswold Hills, the North Downs and the South Downs.
